The Thames estuary is one of the world's most important river deltas, as notable for its abundant wildlife and evocative landscapes as it is for its rich history and vibrant current commerce. Author Rachel Lichtenstein has travelled along, across and through it many times, on foot and in a diverse array of more or less seaworthy vessels, and has spoken to many of those who call it home – mudlarkers, fisherfolk, radio pirates and sailors amongst them. She will be discussing her new book, Estuary (Hamish Hamilton) with historian/geographer Ken Worpole, whose The New English Landscape, with photographs by Jason Orton, sang the praises of this riparian marvel, and Gareth Evans, curator of film at the Whitechapel Gallery in London.
