The artist and activist David Wojnarowicz died of AIDS-related illness in New York City in 1992. Twenty-five years on, his extraordinary, electrifying memoir Close to the Knives has been brought back into print in the UK by Canongate, with a new introduction by Olivia Laing, whose latest book The Lonely City has done much to raise the profile of an artist largely overlooked in this country. To celebrate this reissue, Laing along with writer Philip Hoare and painter Chantal Joffe will read extracts from the book and discuss Wojnarowicz's life, exploring the relevance of his message of resistance in the world today. The evening will be chaired by Gareth Evans.
