A bookshop without authors would be a sad thing: Sweep without Sooty, Wise without Morecambe, Lewis without Morse. And being where we are in London, surrounded by some of the country’s finest publishers, libraries and cultural attractions, we get a lot of famous authors dropping by. Normally they’re in search of tea and cake, or something stronger from Truckles in Pied Bull Yard, but they often take the time to chew the fat with our star-struck staff, and to sign copies of their latest books. Add to that our prestigious series of author events, and the result is a constantly changing selection of highly-collectible signed first editions, only available in person at the shop. So, even if you aren't lucky enough to bump into them in person, the likes of Andrew O'Hagan, Kazuo Ishiguro and Kirsty Gunn often leave behind them tangible reminders of their presence – Andrey Kurkov memorably adorned his Penguin books with a line drawing of Misha the penguin, and Tan Twan Eng found, in Bladerubber next door, a rubber stamp of a crane that was a perfect match for the cover of The Garden of Evening Mists.
These titles are only available in person from the Bookshop. You can let us know you want one by clicking the button below to use our contact form (please specify you would like a signed copy) – or you can contact us by phone (020 7269 9030) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org). (Payment should be made either in person at the shop, or by telephone.)
We'll try and keep an up-to-date list of what's available here but the best way to stay abreast of who has been defacing our books recently is to call in at the shop – for books, tea, cake or something stronger, and to chew the fat with our star-spotting staff.
