One of international cinema's most awarded and distinctive artist film-makers, Ben Rivers has created a unique body of work over the last 15 years, almost exclusively made on hand-processed 16mm. Renowned for his enduring engagement with individuals and communities making their own worlds well beyond the mainstream and the urban, he is also one of contemporary film's great readers, passionate about the great lineage of experimental, innovative and imaginative literature old and new. In this special programme for the bookshop, he presents three short works anchored around key texts by Henri Michaux, Robert Pinget and Herbert Read. He will be in conversation following the screening with Gareth Evans, film curator at the Whitechapel Gallery.
