Jonathan Meades joins us for an evening looking east - to Essex and Norfolk - with a double bill of his works for television, The Joy of Essex and Double Dutch: The Fens.
In The Joy of Essex, Meades explores London’s eastern home county with fresh eyes: finding pre-war modernist villages, 19th Century utopian do-gooders and scenic, pastoral England. He also travels to the Fens – where he finds an uncanny Holland – exploring its flatlands of canals, dykes and wide horizons, a countryside that is strange and wild, yet at the same time oddly familiar.
Meades will be in conversation after the screening with Gareth Evans of the Whitechapel Gallery.
