Double Take is deadly serious in its scrutiny of politics, anxiety and the media, but it’s also a witty entertainment that responds to Hitchcock with much of the master’s own lightness and mischief. - Jonathan Romney, Sight & Sound
There is fascination, and something genuinely disturbing, in every frame. - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
Marking the 120th anniversary of the August 1899 births of both Alfred Hitchcock and Jorge Luis Borges, whose short story ‘August 25, 1983’ is this film's inspiration, we're delighted to present Johan Grimonprez's fascinating 2009 documentary fiction, written by award-winning novelist Tom McCarthy, and a dazzling reflection on image, identity, the rise of television and cold war fears.
We will also show the short film Looking for Alfred that the two made as the project's origin work (thank you to Steven Bode, Johan Grimonprez and FVU). Listen to them speaking about the work here: https://soundcloud.com/film-and-video-umbrella/johan-grimonprez-in *
Acclaimed actor Toby Jones, who portrayed Hitchcock in 2012 drama The Girl, will be in conversation with Gareth Evans after the screening.
