In light of the continuing coronavirus epidemic, all events and late shopping evenings due to take place in March and April have unfortunately been postponed indefinitely. Please see our blog for more details.
Marieke Lucas Rijneveld rose to fame in their native Netherlands with their first poetry collection Calfskin. This early success is now followed by a novel The Discomfort of Evening (Faber), a portrait of a Dutch farming family torn apart by grief, already a huge bestseller in the Netherlands and now available in English in a translation by Michele Hutchison. Rijneveld will be reading from their work and will be in conversation with the artist, poet and translator Sophie Collins, (Small White Monkeys; Who is Mary Sue?) who was herself brought up in North Holland.
