Dorothea Lange’s Day Sleeper: Sam Contis and Joanna Biggs

In Day Sleeper (MACK) artist Sam Contis presents a new way of looking at the work of iconic American photographer Dorothea Lange. Drawing on Lange’s extensive archive, and featuring many works never before seen in public, Day Sleeper accompanies an exhibition of Lange’s photographs at MoMA in New York. Sam Contis, whose first book of photographs, Deep Springs, came out in 2017 and is featured in the new Barbican show 'Masculinities', was in conversation about Dorothea Lange, the way women photographers are remembered and forgotten and how one artist encounters another in the world and in the archive, with Joanna Biggs, assistant editor at the LRB.
