Our Author of the Month for October is the genre-defying poet, novelist, memoirist and essayist Patricia Lockwood.
Her first poetry collection to be published in the UK, Motherland Fatherland Homelandsexuals (2013) was hailed by The Stranger as ’the first true book of poetry to be published in the 21st century.’ This was followed in 2017 by Priestdaddy, a memoir/meditation on family, belief and belonging. Two novels came next, No One Is Talking About This in 2021 and Will There Ever Be Another You in 2025. Her latest poetry collection, Agate Head, Stone Soup, was published this year.
Throughout her career, both in her books and her many articles for the LRB, Lockwood’s work has engaged – in a striking, often hilarious way – with the complexities and contradictions of the digital world, always grounded in a fierce but lightly worn erudition.
